I have been TOTALLY nesting with this pregnancy, and can't seem to stop doing projects and revamping things around our house. I guess I feel like I want to get things in order before the baby comes so I'm not trying to finish things up when he gets here :) (Not that we won't have enough to worry about with a move, finals, and a baby!)I'll start with the duvet cover.... I often check out Anthropologie's website since I LOVE all the cute, vintage things they carry even though I will probably never buy anything there since it is so pricey. There was a duvet cover that I have been coveting for probably the last year and finally decided to do something about it. I think the duvet cover cost about $300.. just for the duvet cover.
I was searching various blogs online one night, when I came across a tutorial on how to make that exact duvet cover! Using flat sheets! I started the project in less than a week.
I bought three king size flat sheets from Walmart (since that is about the only place I know of that sells them separately). Then I tore them into wide, and narrow strips.

The wide strips I gathered on my machine on both sides. Then I sewed them to the narrow straight strips. There was A LOT of pinning involved in this project to keep everything straight, although the end result is supposed to look kind of messy, gathered, and ruffled, which I loved. I then sewed one of the sheets to the top of the duvet cover. I then sewed on some ribbon for closures, since I was scared to attempt button holes, and which I actually ended up liking better.

The original duvet cover from Anthropologie had the strips going horizontally, but once I started sewing, I decided I liked them better going vertically. After I decided that, I found a bedding set from Pottery barn that looks almost identical to mine!
On to the bed skirt...My sister Ashlee now knows to ask me before she throws anything out at my parents house, in case I have an idea for how I can revamp, or re purpose whatever she wants to get rid of. This particular bed skirt has been around my parents house for quite some time. When she asked me if I wanted it, I was tickled pink! It had a couple of tears, but they were easily fixed since it was torn along a couple of seams. I immediately had the idea to add some ruffles to it to match the vintage look of the end tables and bedding. I knew that ruffles would be a good way to update the look, and cover up those daisy's.
Here is an after picture of the ruffles, and I'm pulling them back a bit so you can see that those ugly daisy cut outs are still there :)
Remember this lamp from a previous project? It now matches SO perfectly with the rest of the bedding!
I've always wanted a black and white room! I found this fabric at Joanne's on sale so I snagged it up and whipped up some pillow covers for the pillow forms I already had. I think I am going to add some yellow ribbon or fabric tied in a knot around the ends to add a pop of color.
I also found this fabric at Joanne's and absolutely LOVED the lace details! It looks ADORABLE with the rest of the bedding.
And here is my favorite pillow.....It was a little bit tricky to figure out how to cover a bolster pillow, since it is circular but I eventually figured it out. It's not perfect, but I love how it looks. The pillow behind it still needs a cover... I think I want to add some grey to the color scheme so I'm keeping my eye out for some yellow, grey, black and white fabric to tie the whole thing together. What do you think????
