Christmas Piano Recital

We had our Christmas Piano Recital last night and it went great. It was so fun to be able to host it in our home. It was super cozy! I set up every chair we own and actually had enough seating for everyone. I served Snickerdoodles, which I thought were going to be AWFUL! I doubled the recipe but accidentally didn't double the butter. The first batch out of the oven was really bad! After they cooled, they were like hard little nuggets! haha Those went RIGHT into the trash can. I would have made a new batch, but I didn't have time. I added a couple of eggs to the previous cookie dough and baked the rest and they actually turned out ok. I guess they weren't too bad because I only had 2 cookies left :) It's so annoying how when you cook and bake for your family, things usually turn out, but when you are cooking or baking for a large crowd something always seems to go wrong! Oh well, it was a fun night and I am so excited to be able to have the space and a piano to be able to have the recitals in our home.
Here are 5 of my 8 students. Two couldn't make it to the recital and the other one (a 5 year old) was having a melt down during this time and wouldn't come stand in the picture :) I really am so proud of them! I had three beginners this year and they did awesome!
I hate to say this, but a lot of times when I get students who have previously taken lessons, I feel like I have to fix bad habits for the first couple of months. It is so rewarding when they finally start playing with correct rhythms, notes and fingerings! Last night was evidence that they have learned something from me! That is the MOST rewarding part of being a piano teacher!
By the way, I have to say how lazy I am this year! I didn't even get out our Christmas Tree! :( I did put up the little display behind me in this picture; two mini trees, a nativity, and some ornaments in a glass jar. It is so pretty right there, but I feel a little "bah hum bug" about it. We leave for Idaho tomorrow so I had a hard time feeling like putting up our tree for 2 weeks and coming home and just having to take it down. We will have to enjoy the beautiful trees at our family's homes this year :)
