Baby Boy Projects

I love taking something old and making it new! I took one of Chase's old, but very soft, t-shirts and made it into this outfit. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about these before, especially on boys, but I think the "John Deere" logo makes it boyish enough :) I think it turned out so stinking cute! I found a tutorial on how to make it and just printed out the pattern pieces and sewed them together and added some elastic along the bottom.

Binky clips! I am in love with these and they are so fun to make! Using left over fabric pieces I already had, I made three binky clips, although I think I will be making a few more since boys don't really have very many accessories. Can I use that word for boys? Accessories? haha

Crib Sheets!!!! Okay.. These are seriously my favorite project lately.. I have known for a while that I didn't want to spend a bunch of $ on crib bedding since I think the quilt is basically pointless, the bumper can only be used for the first few months, and the options out there really aren't that cute..I found a tutorial on how to make crib sheets and I thought it would be SO fun to make about three of them in different fabrics that I can switch out. Since all of the sheets at the stores are pretty plain, I love that you can find a cute fabric and make a sheet out of whatever you want! I still haven't tried them on the actual crib mattress, since we don't have one yet :)

Here is a pile of the fabrics I picked out, including the sheets, that I'm thinking of for the baby's room. I have two canvases I got at Thai Pan a while back for $2 each, and I wanted to cover them in fabric. I was thinking of putting an applique owl on each one. How cute would that be? And use the different fabrics for the different parts of the owl? What do you think?

Then I got thinking. Would it be cuter to do grey and yellow with the green, white and blue? I can't decide. Here is a pile of the colors below, just to give you an idea.Which do you like better?

Accent Pillows

I have been wanting to add some color to our basically "all neutral" living room for quite a while and finally got the guts to do it (when I say finally, I mean before Christmas..sorry I'm so bad at new posts haha) I found the fabric at Joanne's and made the pillow covers out of it. I love them and it has brightened up our living room SO much! I just realized the green pillow is upside down..whoops. :)

This is the blanket I made for Chase for Christmas, since according to him, " None of our blankets are very comfortable and soft." So we found some VERY soft fleece and I stitched "Funk" on the corner.. I just found a font from dafont.com that I liked and then drew it on with pencil. I then stitched over the pencil marks and now it has some character.

New Bedding! (and some revamped things I already had)

I have been TOTALLY nesting with this pregnancy, and can't seem to stop doing projects and revamping things around our house. I guess I feel like I want to get things in order before the baby comes so I'm not trying to finish things up when he gets here :) (Not that we won't have enough to worry about with a move, finals, and a baby!)
I'll start with the duvet cover.... I often check out Anthropologie's website since I LOVE all the cute, vintage things they carry even though I will probably never buy anything there since it is so pricey. There was a duvet cover that I have been coveting for probably the last year and finally decided to do something about it. I think the duvet cover cost about $300.. just for the duvet cover.
I was searching various blogs online one night, when I came across a tutorial on how to make that exact duvet cover! Using flat sheets! I started the project in less than a week.
I bought three king size flat sheets from Walmart (since that is about the only place I know of that sells them separately). Then I tore them into wide, and narrow strips.

The wide strips I gathered on my machine on both sides. Then I sewed them to the narrow straight strips. There was A LOT of pinning involved in this project to keep everything straight, although the end result is supposed to look kind of messy, gathered, and ruffled, which I loved. I then sewed one of the sheets to the top of the duvet cover. I then sewed on some ribbon for closures, since I was scared to attempt button holes, and which I actually ended up liking better.

The original duvet cover from Anthropologie had the strips going horizontally, but once I started sewing, I decided I liked them better going vertically. After I decided that, I found a bedding set from Pottery barn that looks almost identical to mine!

On to the bed skirt...My sister Ashlee now knows to ask me before she throws anything out at my parents house, in case I have an idea for how I can revamp, or re purpose whatever she wants to get rid of. This particular bed skirt has been around my parents house for quite some time. When she asked me if I wanted it, I was tickled pink! It had a couple of tears, but they were easily fixed since it was torn along a couple of seams. I immediately had the idea to add some ruffles to it to match the vintage look of the end tables and bedding. I knew that ruffles would be a good way to update the look, and cover up those daisy's.
Here is an after picture of the ruffles, and I'm pulling them back a bit so you can see that those ugly daisy cut outs are still there :)
Remember this lamp from a previous project? It now matches SO perfectly with the rest of the bedding!

I've always wanted a black and white room! I found this fabric at Joanne's on sale so I snagged it up and whipped up some pillow covers for the pillow forms I already had. I think I am going to add some yellow ribbon or fabric tied in a knot around the ends to add a pop of color.

I also found this fabric at Joanne's and absolutely LOVED the lace details! It looks ADORABLE with the rest of the bedding. And here is my favorite pillow.....It was a little bit tricky to figure out how to cover a bolster pillow, since it is circular but I eventually figured it out. It's not perfect, but I love how it looks. The pillow behind it still needs a cover... I think I want to add some grey to the color scheme so I'm keeping my eye out for some yellow, grey, black and white fabric to tie the whole thing together. What do you think????

End table Make-Over!!

Do you like this? Because I think I'm in love! :) The below picture was taken before we put some TLC into them. I found these beauties at a yard sale this summer for $7 total...NO JOKE! With a broken drawer, missing hardware, and some big cracks, they definitely needed some major work, but I could see the potential.

I can't get over their adorable, curvy feet!
I'm pretty proud of myself for fixing the broken drawer with some wood glue and clamps. Grandma Whitt would be proud! And after I filled the uneven spaces with wood putty and sanded over it, it looked brand new.
I took off the old hardware and filled the holes with putty and sanded over them. This is the stage they sat at for about 3 months, since I started this project right before I found out I was pregnant. I wasn't able to do the painting since we used spray paint, so I had to wait until Chase could come finish my project for me. Towards the end of Christmas break, we finally found some time to get these babies finished (when I say we, I mean Chase :)
Here are the drawers with the first coat of primer.
And here is a close up after spray painted with a gorgeous yellow, and glazed. I love how the grooves picked the glaze right up! We got some glass, I mean plastic :), knobs from walmart and Chase drilled holes for them and put the hardware on.
It was so fun to do a project with my hubby and it is so cute how much pride he has taken in these end tables :) I think he now has a better understanding of why I get so excited when I finish a project! He was bragging to all of his IDEP friends about "the end tables" that he finished over the break. We had a few of his classmates from the IDEP over for dinner one night, and that was one of the first things he showed them :)
I LOVE how they turned out! And I bet the people I bought them from at the yard sale would want them back if they saw them now :)

22 Weeks

Baby Boy Funk!

It was a big week! We found out it's a boy, I started feeling the baby move, and we hit the halfway mark. We are sooooo excited! It feels so much more real knowing what the gender is. The night before we found out, we had spent time looking at ultrasound pictures online to get an idea of what the different parts look like on the ultrasound. When his little "parts" were pulled up on the screen, Chase and I both said, "It's a boy isn't it!", before the guy giving the ultrasound had even told us.
I had been at work in the morning and was counting down the minutes until we would find out and my sister wanted us to come back and tell her after. We got a little balloon that said, "it's a boy", and brought her some ice cream sandwiches to celebrate :)

Baby boy Funk

We found this glider on Craigslist and it is in excellent condition. Chase surprised me while I was at work one day and went and got it and had it set up with the little onesie and zebra fabric, since he thought it was a girl too, haha. Obviously this was before we found out but I am SO excited for my new comfy chair!
20 weeks prego! Starting to get a little belly!

Christmas

Christmas was so great this year! It has been enlightening to be pregnant over Christmas. It made me contemplate Mary, and some of the thoughts and feelings she might have had towards her sweet little baby and to ponder the challenges and excitement she might have felt during her pregnancy. I love Christmastime, and the desire it instills in us to serve and be more like our Savior.
We were able to spend Christmas Eve at Grandpa Uhrich's house, which I had never been a part of until this year. A few days before Christmas we took a trip to Salt Lake with my family. We visited Temple Square and saw the beautiful lights and nativity scenes.
We also went to Salt Lake a few days after Christmas with Chase's family and went to a Jazz game! It was so fun!

We went to a sing along concert with an orchestra at the Energy Solutions Stadium. Jon Schmit also played the piano at it and he was very entertaining!
